Are Contact Lenses Right for You?
Men don't make passes at women who wear glasses. Stupid, sexist, crazy. Maybe, but look at yourself with your glasses and then without. What do you think? Have you ever seen a movie star wear glasses in a movie unless she was pretending to be studious or a shrinking violet. In the movies of the forties, beautiful women disguised themselves behind glasses. When the leading man took off the glasses, voila an incredibly gorgeous woman suddenly appeared. Not fair but true, we look better without our glasses. One plan is to go without your glasses and risk your life. Fortunately, there is an easier solution, contact lenses. Yes, you too can be more beautiful and still be able to see.
Contact lenses allow wearers to see clearly without the hassle of glasses. There are many benefits to contacts that glasses just don't have. One, of course, is cosmetic. Many people simply don't like the way they look in glasses. Also, who wants to worry about losing or breaking their glasses? In this article, you'll learn more about contacts so you can decide if they are right for you.
There are two basic types of contacts: Hard (also called rigid gas permeable) and soft. Within these categories there are many variations, but let's first look at the basics of each type. Hard lenses are often more durable and more resistant to deposits than soft lenses. Because they usually contain silicone, they can allow more oxygen to reach the eye than some types of soft lenses. However, most people end up going with soft contacts. This is because soft contacts are thought to be more comfortable, flexible and widely available.
Within the soft lenses category are many different varieties. There are bifocal contact lenses, lenses designed for astigmatism sufferers, colored contact lenses, extended wear, 1-day disposable, and many more. There are even colored lenses which can change or enhance your natural eye color. Acuvue makes some of the most popular types of contacts worn today. One of the newest varieties is Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear. These lenses offer long-lasting comfort with all day moisture. They feature a visibility tint so that lenses are easy to see and handle, as well as UVA and UVB protection. Another popular type is the 1-Day Acuvue and Acuvue 2. As the name suggests, these are only used for one day before being disposed of. Many people enjoy these because they don't have to deal with the hassle of protein deposits or thorough cleanings.
If you're considering contacts for yourself but are concerned about the expense, there are many discount contact lens choices out there. You can often find coupons and sales, and if you buy online you can sometimes get free shipping. With all the different types of contact lenses out there, you're sure to find the perfect type for your individual vision needs. The first step is to see your eye doctor to find out the kind of lenses you will need. He or she can check your vision and fit you with the perfect pair!
